Day 29: Anne and Ruth
Anne and Ruth chop it up over a tree in Centenary, a serial novel unfolding in 100-word stories from Living Well Towers.
29 ANNE and RUTH
- Ruth dear, is that a Christmas tree?
- No, Anne, it’s May, so it’s a “Spring Flowers” tree, even though it hasn’t rained since January.
- Aren’t you Jewish?
- When I was a little girl, I begged and begged for a Christmas tree. My mother never relented, ‘We aren’t going to goy up this house,’ she said. Not even a Hanukkah bush.
- So this is your revenge?
- I finally got up the nerve.
- Well, good for you. How have you kept it alive?
- It’s artificial. I decided to redecorate it every season. Fourth of July fireworks next. You know all about that.
